How does the motor prevent moisture in a humid environment?


1. Source of moisture
Humid environment than the normal environment, water is more likely to enter the internal motor, summed up the main sources of moisture are the following:

(1) The motor running outdoors is directly exposed to rain, and a small amount of water enters the motor through the gap of the flameproof surface;

(2) When the motor stops working in a humid environment, moisture enters the inside of the motor and then condensation;

(3) The motor stored for a long time is easy to be affected with damp and condensation due to moisture;

(4) The motor working in the harsh environment may suffer from water flooding, soaking and other accidents to cause water to enter;

(5) The residual water in the insulation capillary holes caused by not pre-drying according to the process requirements or incomplete drying after dipping paint in the motor production process.

2. Hazards caused by the presence of moisture inside the motor
For the motor, good insulation is a prerequisite for the safe operation of the motor. There are a large number of capillary holes in the winding stator, whether it is slot insulation, interlayer insulation, interphase insulation or binding tape or the outer layer of the power lead wire. It is easy to absorb moisture in the air, reduce its own insulation performance and make the insulation thermal conductivity worse, cause insulation breakdown and damage to the motor, resulting in personal and equipment safety accidents. High relative humidity is easy to cause water film to condense on the surface. When the humidity is higher than 95%, water droplets often condense inside the motor, which makes metal parts easy to rust, grease is affected with moisture and metamorphism, some insulating materials are affected with moisture and expansion, some are soft and sticky, mechanical and electrical properties deteriorate, and insulation breakdown and surface flashover are prone to occur. In addition, in a high humidity environment, mold is also easy to grow, and mold secretions can corrode metal and insulating materials, so that the rapid deterioration of insulation, causing a short circuit accident.

3. Explosion-proof motor shell waterproof measures
The waterproof protection object of the motor is mainly the motor shell, and the waterproof performance of the motor depends on the protection done on the shell. In order to reduce the presence of water in the motor, the shell waterproof process is generally solved by two aspects, the first is to take measures to prevent the entry of water; the second is how to discharge the water in a timely and effective manner. Around these two aspects, we can carry out the following effective protection on the shell:

(1) Add a water retaining ring or rain cap at the extension of the motor shaft.

(2) The shaft surface oil seal with better dustproof and waterproof effect is adopted instead of the ordinary V-shaped ring.

(3) For motors with special installation methods, such as V1 motors, a top cover must be installed on the hood.

(4) Add sealing ring at the flameproof surface of the stop.

(5) Apply sealant on the important joint surface of the motor and the fastening screw hole on the stator.

(6) Add explosion-proof breathing drain valve on the stator.
